A complete portfolio of the popular QSFP form factor of cables and transceivers includes both 40G (QSFP+) and 100G (QSFP28) for intra rack and rack to rack communication.
DAC cables (Direct attached copper) provide a complete cable assembly instead of discrete components for short distance connectivity. Active optical cables (AOCs) are also complete cable assemblies but use real transceivers and are suitable for longer distances.
Cable assemblies offer minimal part numbers and avoid problems with dirty connectors. Discrete transceivers take advantage of structured cabling and offer longer distance solutions in mega data centres and across geographically separated sites.
