Total Access 5000 Series

The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 Series MSAP/MSAN is a carrier class multi-service access and aggregation platform that bridges the gap between the existing and the next generation networks. With a pure Ethernet core, the Total Access 5000 supports both legacy and emerging service interfaces over both copper and fiber, easily scaling to support even the most bandwidth intensive applications.

As a Broadband Loop carrier, the Total Access 5000 provides converged POTS and enhanced broadband services using the ADSL2+, VDSL2 and GPON technologies. The Total Access 5000 provides a clear migration path for traditional services through its flexible network uplink options, including support for both TDM and VoIP switches. In addition, the Total Access 5000's Ethernet core provides a scalable and cost optimised aggregation point in the network, with interfaces ranging from DS1 to Gigabit Ethernet. Environmentally hardened, the Total Access 5000 and more compact Total Access 5006 are designed with the Service Provider in mind and are equally capable of deployment in CO, RT or remote node locations.

The new Optical Networking Edge (ONE) addition to the TA5000 provides an efficient, cost effective integration of Packet Optical Transport portfolio to the industry leading multi-service delivery and aggregation solution.

  • Eliminates multi-box complexity with converged service delivery and optical transport via a single platform
  • Support for both 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps UNI and NNI access port configurations
  • Certified MEF9/14 compliant
  • Over 100 Gbps of services aggregation per system
  • Resilient network port support via link aggregation-based protection implementation
  • Support for Ethernet access and transport ring ERPS topology via ITU-T G.8032 (2011)
  • SLA Management via Ethernet OAM performance monitoring tool sets
  • Extreme temperature hardened for street cabinet deployments

Systems at the core are increasingly more elaborate and complex and are being developed to handle even more data. The requirements at the edge are entirely different; simplicity, multi-service, integration, and cost rule. Typically, only a few wavelengths are required to start. Space is often a premium, especially in huts and street cabinets. In some cases, the equipment needs to be environmentally and temperature hardened.

Optical networking systems developed for the core of the network typically handle more than 80 wavelengths and are equipped for a large number of incoming feeds. These systems are designed to support 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps wavelengths and have very high startup costs; but the cost is justified since these systems handle very large quantities of data in the core.

The ADTRAN® Total Access® 5000 offers a versatile Carrier Ethernet Transport Optical Switch (ETOS) as part of the Optical Networking Edge (ONEâ„¢) product line. The addition of the ETOS-1 module to the ADTRAN Total Access 5000 allows service providers the ability to deliver as well as aggregate both 1GigE and 10GigE carrier grade services. Services which can then be transported on a per wavelength basis, using only a single fibre uplink to aggregate and transport multiple services whether for residential triple play, mobile backhaul or business Ethernet services. The core Ethernet features of this product include a flexible Ethernet processor, 16 flexible Gigabit Ethernet SFP interfaces including support for a copper SFP supporting 1000Base-T, and two 10 Gigabit Ethernet XFP standard or DWDM fibre interfaces. Flexible traffic management; Ethernet flow mapping, prioritisation, tagging; and versatile management options make the Total Access 5000 ONE ETOS-1 an excellent choice as an edge-optimised optical networking solution.
